To carry on from the October 1999 Eddie-Torial the last one will focus on our attitudes to prophecy. I mean prophecies made during the Christian era. Last month the topic of doomsday seemed appropriate. It became apparent that all doomsday prophets base their predictions on several books in the bible according to their personal interpretation. Mind you, with millions of independent minds come millions of interpretations, and millions of people yelling "blasphemy" at each other. Up to now it's been a wild ride, and the circus act ain't over by a long shot. So this last one (December's will be my usual Holiday Greeting to you all)...will concentrate on the positive...predictions made by major and minor prophets as to the upside of our future.

Whether these 'interpreters' claim 'second sight' or claim they are prophets by the gift of God doesn't really matter. They are humans with brains who may or may not suffer from mental conditions (with voices and visions in their heads). No matter how 'off the wall' they appear to the rest of the world, whether communist or capitalist, whether Christian or Pagan, whether Canadian or Bulgarian...we all love to listen and some we love to hate. In any event...it's a good show, so please excuse me if I make light of some and hearken the words of others.

A tongue-in-cheek look at the new millennium
or
how we need to rationalize the unexplainable

Proverbs 29:18

Where there is no vision the people perish...

More has been written about doomsday prophets in the past year than ever before, but with this Eddie-Torial I want to get away from the darker side of humanity. From the old testament to the last book in the new testament...from Nostradamus to Mother Shipton...from lay people to the most religious... prophecies are a part of our lives. They either warn us, guide us, or give us hope.

The methods employed in 'divining' prophecy varies from person to person. The old testament prophets would employ fasting in the tradition of Jewish Law, some would fall into trance, some would in whirling dervish fashion dance themselves into a state. Nostradamus used fire, stargazing or liquid in a bowl to look into the future, (the old black mirror method).
Edgar Cayce used a form of sleep-trance. Jeane Dixon uses silence and meditation, while others receive their insight in dreams or near-death experiences. Let it said here by me that one method is not better than another...whatever works for one person may not for another...after all, we have always been in the altruistic sense, individuals.

Old Testament Prophets

Isaiah foretold Christ as 'man'...'he will come and save you. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped'...and said of the aftermath of the holocaust...'and they shall build houses...and plant vineyards and eat the fruit of them...they shall not labor in vain...the wolf and the lamb shall feed together and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock'.
Zechariah foretold the King riding into Jerusalem...'who is just and having salvation: lowly riding upon an ass'...
Micah told Palestine...'out of thee shall he come forth...that is to be the ruler in Israel'...and 'they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more'.

Revelation

After the coming tribulation as foretold in the Book of Daniel and Revelation we are left with a prophecy of hope. The new Jerusalem, the throne of God, a new heaven and earth, and most important of all...a new beginning. That a new earth will rise out of the old as a phoenix rises from the ashes is not a new idea, it points to a transformation, just as to most people whether Christian or Pagan know that death is but a passing on to a new beginning. Some people who are 'believers' point to the ultimate death of sinners and sin as preached in the Books, and who is to say that this is wrong. The threat in turn gives us hope...and hope gives us access to all the things of Eden which were denied to Adam and Eve. Both chapter 21 and 22 of Revelation give us this ultimate hope of peace, a world without curse, the tree of Life...but only for believers in the Christian faith of course. We were also taught thru new age beliefs that the Age of Aquarius would bring us peace and understanding, but this age so far has not ushered in this communal hope of mankind. I cannot in all good conscience believe that billions of right-living people, whether Muslim, Bhuddist, Pagan, or Naturist (Native American beliefs - the Great Spirit) would or should be condemned...at least not by us mortals...'and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away'. (NOTE)...I must here profess my hope that our ability to moralize and judge our fellows would also be redundent and of no consequence.

Recent Prophets

Nostradamus told of life in space...'Samarobryn a hundred leagues from the hemisphere, they live without law, exempt from politics'...and of June 21, 2002...'at last the wolf, the lion, ox and ass, the timid deer, shall lie down with the mastiffs'.

The Brahan Seer told of the 'horrid black rains' and depopulation to come to Scotland after which 'the people will then return and take undisturbed possession of the lands of their ancestors'.

Edgar Cayce predicted the fall of the Soviet Union, that the USA would become an ally and help Russia out to become 'the greater hope of the world'. China 'will one day be the cradle of Christianity. It is far off as man measures time, but only a day in the heart of God'. Referring to Atlantis he said 'off the coast of Bimini will be found remnants' and that records in Bimini, Egypt, and Mexico would be 'one'.

Jeane Dixon predicts these positive events...'the world will not end for another 3000 years', 'intelligent life will be found in space in our solar system', 'the USA will have a woman president' (in the 1980's)...perhaps we can hope that soon it will happen, 'Canada and Brazil will be among the top economic powers at the turn of the century' (not far off the mark taking into consideration that these two nations control about 50% of the world's resources), 'there will be peace at last in Northern Ireland'.

Gopi Krishna proclaims that...'when the dust has settled on the fiery scene, then on the ashes of the past will rise a one-world state built on the golden mean to make man happy, healthy, peaceful, wise.

Several psychics agree on the following predictions. As must be realized, if there is concensus, the more probable that the prediction will come to pass.

Roger Bacon had this to say, far-fetched for us (or is it?)...

Prediction vs Logic

It becomes quite clear that our modern day psychics really have nothing going for them except the ability to understand and use logic (the following of thought from a to b). So with that in mind here are my 'predictions' of the future, and taking into account how time speeds along I will also give a rough estimate of dates....

A Final Word

Summing up the year 1999 I find that I'm excited and looking forward...I am neither fretful nor sorry. I've taken us all on a journey through such topics as the 'theocrasia' which effected Christianity, Islam and Bhuddist beliefs. I've written of doomsday prophets both major and minor, love and the internet, child abuse, a great Jewish nation of eastern Europe (Khazaria).

Standing at the threshold of a new century/millennium we must take all these views with us to guide us, to torment us, to soothe us. That one single thought cannot be isolated, that it will be influenced by other thoughts is quite plain when we realize how we see the world and all its problems and/or blessings. I believe whole-heartedly in self-determination, in free thought, and thus must take full responsibility for my actions.

I've been commended, reviled and condemned for my views, yet I wouldn't change one word. I've endured mass emails on my salvation to the point of dispair over my religious eddie-torials. That I've stirred deep controversy is a given and that I have friends who at least can see what I am getting at with my words makes me thankful that I know such people. If I have started one deep thought or a discussion on any of these topics then I've done what I set out to do...I can only blame myself if I brought about my own downfall by my words, which I am glad to say has not happened up to now.

In this new era of 'speakfree' via the internet we are all guaranteed this right, realizing that this was accomplished by a most simple right of every human...freedom of thought. Some would say this is a privilege, but no...it is a right.

With my usual sense of humour I say farewell to 1999...(to all of the 1900's which is officially now known as the century of war), and am looking forward to 2000 (of which the first century will be known as the century of space). Little will go wrong with the 'roll-over', and the testing that has been done has shown us some of the silly problems we will encounter such as the vehicle registration bureau in Maine which when registering a 2000 vehicle printed out 'horseless carriage'. It has been interesting to say the least, and it may prove interesting still.

To all of you...a most happy and prosperous (or if you like...preposperous) 2000. Remember that smiles are contagious (although some say that idiocy is as well). May we all walk in the path of the Great Spirit...Jah bless!
