The arthritis clinic, arthritis self-management program
    friendly and personal

Another "help" site is now coming alive. Its main concern is addressed to "coping" with disabilities and chronic diseases. After the physical adjustments are made, then comes coping with it for the rest of your life. It is not much yet, but with time it will become the ultimate "coping" site. Please visit

    Arthritis Self-Management Program

The Arthritis Self-Management Program is widely available across North America and some other parts of the globe. It has been translated into several languages to accommodate our diverse ethnic makeup, including a culturally appropriate Native program.

For more information contact the Arthritis Society (BC & Yukon)'s free information service at 1-800-667-ATIS weekdays between 10am and 4pm. This line is staffed by volunteers.

ASMP - The Arthritis Self-Management Program enhances professional care. Workshops revolve around pain management, nutrition, activeness, wise use of the joints (joint mechanics), communication, problem solving, myths, non-traditional treatments (alternatives treatments), relaxation techniques and support.
The program is held over six weeks, one 2-hour session per week and is guided by volunteers, non-professional leaders who have arthritis.

  • THERE IS NO ARTHRITIS DIET, just proper nutrition for optimum health.

  • THERE IS NO MAGIC BULLET. The promises made are usually FOR SALE.

  • IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE THEN IT PROBABLY IS.

After all, they may be more interested in your money than in your problem.

If a cure is found rest assured that it will make HEADLINES in all major REPUTABLE newspapers around the world.

If in doubt, contact someone like myself via e-mail or phone the Arthritis Society/Foundation in your region.

The main focus on research of arthritis at the moment is on rheumatoid arthritis. If the exact causes are found (perhaps genetic), such as the gene marker HLA B27 for Ankylosing Spondylitis and Reiter's, it would appear that inflamatory arthritis may be wiped out in one blow. Inflamatory types number about 50% of all the types known.

Because of the many emails I get on a daily basis from everyone with questions on arthritis and treatments I will reply personally but it may take awhile. This is purely a volunteer effort on my part. I will also at times hang out on the discussion board and put in my opinions.

My ARTHRITIS CHAT-PAGE has evolved into a moderated messages/discussion forum on which commercial messages may be permitted and are clearly marked as such.

Some people have found relief by other methods than those sanctioned by the medical profession and who am I to stop you all from whatever turns you on. The old message boards will remain for your perusal, but will not take any new postings unless a new post is so outstanding that it needs saving. If you wish you may retrieve your questions from the old boards and cut and paste in into the new interactive discussion board.

YOUR QUESTIONS CAN ALSO BE POSTED DIRECT TO THE NEWSGROUPS ACCESSIBLE ON THIS SITE!..but be warned..these are primary places spammers gather email addys and you will not be spared getting all kinds of commercial spam whether you want it or not. As I have stated before, my client list on this website is not for sale, it is guaranteed private.

A personal description of myself: I am not a doctor. I am a counselor, educator/facilitator and advocacy worker for those of us who have arthritis or those who are "significant others" (those who work with or live with people with chronic conditions). I am not a spokesperson for the Arthritis Society or Foundation. I have been involved as a leader of the arthritis self-management program sponsored by the society and have inside knowledge of the workshop for both the general public and the First Nations communities.

The secret ingredient of a happy life is to understand as much of it as possible. Most fears can be conquered at least in part by the correct knowledge and the willingness to take control. This is also a page for those employers who have employees with arthritis.
Because arthritis is extremely individual in its manifestation no two people with the same diagnosis will respond exactly the same to treatment. The differences really hit home when a set of identical twins have the same disease but react on a individual basis to the same treatment.

My sites are dedicated to the massive number of readers (500,000 as "SkyDancer" in 3 years) who have pointed me in the right direction and have given a deeper meaning to the world of interactive networking.

Beware of individuals or organizations, either in person, on TV or through the mail, who make promises of a cure or "instant" relief.

  • THERE IS NO CURE, just proper diagnosis and treatment.

    Quotables:

Some treatments to control disease can extend over weeks or months; some for the rest of your life. Natural up or down cycles will come and go.

Some effects can make you feel rotten, giving the impression that the control is worse than the disease.

The known is less frightening than the unknown. Learn about your condition, the treatments, and how to treat possible side effects.

Any physical exercise improves body image and feelings of well-being. For your own sake, live as active as possible.
